Seminar by Lola Annabel Kass about interpreting the aesthetics of Decadence

On 14 June 2022, in the Estonian Academy of Sciences, a member of the project, doctoral student at Tallinn University, Lola Annabel Kass will make a presentation about interpreting the aesthetics of Decadence. The presentation is based on her dissertation in process, which concentrates on Estonian decadent art in the first half of the 20th century. The seminar will focus on one of the main characteristics of the discourse of Decadence: resistance to the classical aesthetics and to the bourgeois and conservative social norms and ideologies. Also, parallels with literature will be discussed, especially the influence of “aesthetics of ugliness” of Baudelaire to visual arts.
