Tiina Abel’s talk about Siuru’s artists

Our project member Tiina Abel spoke about the artists of the coterie Siuru (1917–1919) at the conference „Sing, sing, birdie… Siuru in our cultural history“

On 13 March 2025, the conference „Sing, sing, birdie… Siuru in our cultural history“ took place in the Estonian Literary Museum.

The conference analysed the meanings of the Siuru bird in Estonian cultural history. Topics included Siuru’s connections to folklore and (national) mythology, its role in literature, art, and music, as well as possible links to linguistics, ornithology, and psychology. Tiina Abel gave a presentation „Those standing nearby: the artists of the Siuru circle“.
