ETIS

Lola Annabel Kass’ research focuses on the aesthetics of ugliness and the impact Charles Baudelaire’s textual corpus had on visual culture. Through that she also analyses the intertextuality and intermediality of modern art. In her upcoming PhD-thesis, Kass investigates Estonian decadent art during the first half of the 20th century. Among many artists, she concentrates mostly on Eduard Wiiralt (1898-1954) and Konrad Mägi (1878-1925). She has worked in Niguliste Museum (initially she studied medieval art) and lectured on art history at Tallinn University. Furthermore, she curated the first exhibition on decadent art in Estonia, Children of the Flowers of Evil. Estonian Decadent Art (Art Museum of Estonia Kumu, 09.09.2017–25.02.2018). Lola Annabel Kass is currently a PhD-student in art history at Tallinn University.
