Vassily Kandinsky Composition VII, 1913. Oil on canvas. The last presentation of the section is given by Eduard Parhomenko. He focusses on Nietzsche's possible influence on Kandinsky's art theory in the context of the apocalyptic-decadent modes of representation as the breeding ground for abstract art and as a possible means to overcome decadence. Furthermore, Parhomenko discusses Kandinsky's abstract painting practices as transgressing the figurative (mimetic) understanding of art.
On August 25th and 26th 2022 the XVII Annual Estonian Philosophy Conference organised by the Institute of Humanities of Tallinn University takes place in Käsmu. The section “Nietzsche and decadence” stems from the workshop of the same name organised by the Literature Centre.
