Jaan Undusk is since 2000 the director of the Under and Tuglas Literature Centre of the Estonian Academy of Sciences and a member of the Estonian Academy of Sciences (2007). Among his interests are the history of ideas at the turn of the 20th century, the philosophy of language, German life and letters in the Baltics, the rhetoric of history writing. He has written a large number of articles and essays on Estonian, Baltic German and German authors, as well as translated works of F. Nietzsche, E. Lévinas and others. As a writer, he has published prose works and plays.
